Attaboy, Luther!

Whoops

We just didn't have it together for Halloween this year...our friends who usually have a big costume bash decided they weren't going to do it this year, and we ended up not doing anything else either. We were going to see a scary movie, or see Southern Culture on the Skids, who were playing locally, but just couldn't get motivated.

Robert and I figured we'd at least give out some candy to the neighborhood kids, but we we were kind of half-assed about it. If we'd planned a little better we'd have decorated the porch a little, and put out pumpkins or decorations to make the house more approachable. We didn't do any of that, neglected to leave the porch light on, and after a certain point Robert decided no one was coming and brought the basket of candy over to the TV. So naturally, the doorbell rang while our mouths were jammed with candy. We looked at each other in panic. For some reason I didn't want to answer the door with my mouth full of (their) candy, so I was frantically chewing. By the time I was done chewing, Robert had moved the kitty from his lap and we got to the door, they were gone. Sad. We did get one more group of trick or treaters eventually, who all gravely thanked Robert. For some reason, he also said "Thank you" to them. We're still not quite used to being adults.

Driving around earlier, we saw a lot of cute little kids walking in their costumes with their parents. I also saw an incredibly Norman Rockwell-esque scene through a window...I saw a freckle faced boy at a kitchen table lifting a pumpkin from a bag and just staring at it with absolute glee. His eyes widened and he just broke into this enormous, excited grin. Very sweet to see...I like it when kids still get to be kids, especially now.
