Just found about ecreamery.com, which lets you design your own ice cream and personalize each quart to your specifications. First you select the base mix (gelato, classic, or super-premium), choose your flavors (which include exotic ones like cardamom, cantaloupe, hot pepper, lychee, maiz, pandan, and rosewater in addition to chocolates and vanillas...but even the vanillas look incredibly luxe), choose mix-ins/toppings (ooh, espresso soaked lady fingers!) and then name your fabulous (or creepy) concoction and wait fot the FedEx guy! It isn't cheap ($79.95 for each one flavor order, which is 4 quarts) but seems perfect for the finicky and the control freaks among us. May be a worthwhile experiment in decadence.
