I need new glasses. Not a big deal because they are really only my "spares" for when I'm kicking around at home and am not wearing my contact lenses. I really only need glasses so I can get up in the morning, and see my way to the bathroom to find my contact lenses...I have terrible vision. However, I always try to find a pair that I would be comfortable wearing out in public, if I really had to. I always think it's funny when you discover your friend or co-worker wears contacts...often, it's only when someone rips or loses a contact lens and comes into the office with enormous, scary, outdated glasses that you find out!
I've been casually trying on a pair here or there without any serious intentions to buy, but last week I actually broke my glasses (I knocked 'em onto the floor...like I said, I have terrible vision) so I'm forced to step up the search a bit.
Some thoughts during the process:
Where does "sexy librarian" end and "mean librarian" begin? I tried on a cool pair of glasses in a cat's eye shape and thought they were nice, but when I turned around to face Robert, he staggered back and said something like "NNNNGGAAAH!!!" I guess they weren't as "sexy librarian" as I thought.
Where do you draw the line between "funky" and "scary"? As I was poking around the Internet looking for frame ideas, I came across the photo above and showed it to my brother and a few friends. My brother pronounced them "scary." My oldest friend who I've known since junior high said she thought they would be "better as sunglasses" and were "too trendy."
You never really know until you try something on!/Taste is subjective. I tried on a pair similar to the ones in the photo this weekend (despite warnings from wise older brother and trusted best friend), and much to my surprise (after being scared by above people) I thought they looked awesome and not crazy lady or scary or too trendy. Robert also loved them and thought I should just buy them on the spot (the only reason I didn't was because I had issue with the earpieces). I'll keep looking. Maybe there is something else I didn't realize would work well on me!
Why are those posters in opticians' shops so funny? It's like this weird alternate universe where everyone wears glasses and lives more fabulously than you. They ride horses! They attend black tie galas! They ski! They play tennis! All while wearing glasses.
Anyway, the search continues...
