I have always had a weakness for candy/mints in exotic, old world packaging, especially if it comes in a tiny purse or pocket sized box. Tins are a bonus! Even if the actual contents don't taste very good.
Usually things that are flower flavored, like these Italian orange blossom lozenges or those French violet candies, have this odd perfumey, almost astringent taste, and seem like something that comes from your elderly aunt's purse. But I still buy them anyway....they are just too charming. I picked up these Pastiglie Leone orange blossom lozenges today from a small Italian grocer in Providence's Federal Hill neighborhood. I liked how they said "Prince of Naples" on them...Robert's family is originally from Naples, so I got them partly in honor of his heritage, partly out of curiosity. And they're just so beautifully packaged...how could I resist?
